MediMin Opens Medical Clinic Inside Bashas’ in Time for Busy Winter Season

PHOENIX — On Saturday, September 30, 2006, MediMin will open the Valley’s third retail–based health clinic inside the Bashas’ store at 75th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

The first of its kind in Arizona, the clinics are staffed by family nurse practitioners and physician assistants who diagnose and treat a variety of common ailments such as pink eye and upper respiratory infections, and prescribe medication and administer vaccines as needed. MediMin clinics also will offer flu shots for $30.

"We care for many of the same common illnesses for which patients often seek care from a doctor’s office or emergency room," said Josh Holland, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for MediMin. "At MediMin patients have a significantly shorter wait time and the convenience of immediate access to the store pharmacy and over–the–counter medications."

Patients are treated for ailments such as strep throat, cough, cold, flu, sinus infections, allergies and rashes, and in most cases, patients are able to get the care they need in approximately 15 minutes.

"We are excited to be the first to offer this service to our community," said Ralph Woodward, Senior VP of Retail Operations, Bashas’ Inc. "We recognize the importance of accessible healthcare to all individuals and families and we feel this is a niche that will complement the pharmacy services already established at this store."

The clinics located near the pharmacy for prescription convenience, and the United Drug pharmacy located inside the store accepts all insurance plans and also gives a discount on certain medications to cash–paying patients.

"With MediMin clinics opening in the Phoenix area, this offers individuals in need of care for a minor illness an alternative to waiting in an emergency room or for an appointment with the family doctor," said Rob Tofil, MediMin’s CEO. "What MediMin offers patients is convenient, professional and affordable healthcare."

The clinics will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Patients one year and older are treated, and appointments are not required.

Most services are about $50, and there is only a slight increase in costs when certain lab work and screenings are added to the office visit. Patients can pay for healthcare services either with insurance, cash or credit. MediMin accepts major payors, such as BlueCross BlueShield and also Medicare and AHCCCS.

MediMin clinics occupy approximately 350 square feet of permanent space inside Bashas’. The clinics resemble a traditional physician’s office, with two private exam rooms, a restroom, a lab and a small waiting area.

"We hope by bringing MediMin into our stores we can provide Arizona families with a convenient, cost–efficient way to treat their non–emergency medical conditions," said Mike Proulx, President and C.O.O., Bashas’ Inc.

Placed for the greatest geographic coverage, other MediMin clinics are location inside Food City at 9020 W. Thomas Road (91st Avenue and Thomas Road) in southwest Phoenix, and inside Bashas’ at 20745 N. Scottsdale Road (Grayhawk Drive and Scottsdale Road) in Scottsdale. To contact the Peoria clinic, call 623.334.2095.

The company plans to expand to 10 clinics through the Phoenix Metropolitan area by the first half of 2007.
